Philip, a native of Jamaica, moved to the U.S. to pursue his education at Prairie View A&M University. After graduating Summa Cum Laude, he went on to earn a Doctorate in Personal Financial Planning from Texas Tech University, demonstrating his commitment to excellence in his field.

As a lifelong learner and passionate educator, Philip began his academic career at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. 

He later joined the faculty at Winthrop University, where he currently serves as a tenured Professor of Finance and Director of Financial Planning. Philip is dedicated to teaching the next generation of financial planners while helping hard-working professionals achieve their financial goals.

With many years of experience as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and an academic background, Philip excels at creating practical financial plans grounded in academic research. He has published numerous research articles, and his expertise has been recognized by multiple media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, CNN Money, and Reuters, who have cited his scholarly articles on investing and retirement planning.

Philip was inducted into the InvestmentNews 2020 class of 40 Under 40. This recognition is given to young advisers and associated professionals who are building and expanding the financial advice industry. He was also inducted into the inaugural class of the Association of African American Financial Advisors 50 under 50, a program recognizing and celebrating influential Black/African American licensed financial advisors, planners, consultants, and operations/ administrative executives in the financial services industry.

Philip enjoys spending time with his spouse, two children, and their dog outside of work. They love engaging in outdoor activities, playing tennis, and traveling together as a family.
